Whiting (calcium carbonate) is used as a final step in the lead caming process. It is used to clean the cement residue from the leaded work and it begins the drying/setting process in the cement. Sold in 1 pound container.

After cementing your panel, sprinkle the whiting on the panel. With a stiff bristle grout brush carefully work the powder into the cement beneath the face of the lead came. As a final cleaning you can sprinkle more whiting all over the panel and swirl around with a scrub brush to clean up any remaining residue form the lead and glass. Carefully sweep or vacuum the excess whiting. Always use whiting in a well ventilated area.
